Andre Dejean Dejean Andre Andre Dejean, a native of Petion-ville, is known as trumpeter, trombone’ player, song writer, and arranger. He attended Lycee Petion-Ville and was part of the school band with Isnard Douby, Herman Nau, and his older bother Fred. With his brothers, Andre, Camille, and Philippe, Fred co-founded the Freres Dejean Band in the 60’s. A trumpet virtuoso, Fred playing style is full with creative leaps, joyous melodies and driving rhythms. His playing technique coupled with his long practice session, allow him to vividly express his individualism without compromising the band essence. In His long career, Fred has accompanied great vocalists like Nelson Ned and Ansy Desrose. He wrote or arranged many of Freres Dejean hits such as: Marina, Arrete, Mots Creoles, Malere, Debake, Leon, L'Humanite, Cote Menage Ou, Macaron, and Gladia. Fred can fluctuate between “La foi”, a song of Christian sensibility to “Naide” of Voodoo overtone. From the early 60’s until today, Fred has not lost his touch. To support our statement we must relate this fact: Not long ago, Fred went to music store in Manhattan to buy a trumpet. He picks this beautiful trumpet and wants to test its efficiency. He started to play a solo from Marina song. All the great musicians that were in the store were seduced by the purity and the elegance of his rendition and converged toward him to savor this free concert. For more than three minutes, everything stayed still and Fred was the center of attention. After falling in love for his new trumpet, he went to the cashier to pay for it. As he was pulling out his wallet the owner, a trumpeter himself, declined to take money from Fred. As the perplexed Fred was trying to collect his thought, the owner claimed: “You are too good and it is an honor for me to give you this trumpet”. Fred is actually living in USA and is considered as one of the greatest Trumpet players of all-time Paul Sanon
