“Latin Flavor Ya Llegó ” is a song that Pa’ Gozar Latin Band recorded as a tribute to Jim Byers; a Latin music educator, promoter and the DJ of the Latin Flavor "Classic Edition" radio show at WPFW 89.3FM in Washington, DC. Jim has been running this radio show as an unpaid volunteer for over ten years. Every Sunday he shares his vast knowledge about Latin Music while playing a select variety of recordings from the Palladium era and beyond. One day, while “jamming” at Charles Marston’s house, I brought up the idea of doing a tribute to Jim Byers. Paul Marston, Charles’ brother, came up with the lyrics and a catchy melody. Then, Charles worked on the musical arrangement. When I shared the idea of recording this song with the talented musicians of Pa’ Gozar Latin Band, they immediately volunteered to participate. Given all our busy schedules, the recording phase was the longest part of the whole project. However, we all worked hard and the final version was presented to Jim as a surprise on March 24, 2011, during one of his workshops on Latin Music for the Smithsonian Institution. It was a very emotional moment. We were very excited and Jim was extremely surprised and moved. Well, that was the goal, and we did surprise him. I want to thank all the friends and musicians that made this possible. We would not have been able to do it without you! Thanks Guys! You are the best!
