简介
For over ten years the Kuahiwis have been perpetuating the spirit and the sound of Hawaiian Music that has been a very important part of Hawai`i and its people since the days of our kupuna (ancestors). The music of the Kuahiwis is spiritual, expressive, smooth and deeply rooted in the volcanic soil of Hawaii. Influenced by their `Ohana (family) and kupuna, these young men have blended the classic songs of their upbringing with the modern rhythms and melodies of today creating a sound that is refreshing and nostalgic. The Kuahiwis songs range from "Nahenahe" hula style to "`Okole ma Luna" party style, seamlessly blending the Hawaiian music of old, and the modern sound of Hawaii. The Kuahiwis music can be heard anywhere from large scale music festivals to backyard baby luaus. The Kuahiwis will soothe and excite you with their fun filled performances packed with music, comedy, and hula! The Kuahiwis first formed as a duo in 2000 with members Kiliona Young, and Grant Ka`au`a performing at various Hotels and festivals on the West side of Hawai`i Island. Soon after the group formed, TR Ireland was invited to join, and the Kuahiwis have since been impressing audiences with their tight three part harmonies and exquisite instrumentation. As a fellow musician and brother to Kiliona, Kalei Young has sat in for all three members of the Kuahiwis throughout the past decade and has recently become a full time member of the band. Since the formation of the group, the Kuahiwis have received opportunities to share their music throughout the State of Hawaii, and also over the Pacific in Japan, where the group has made several trips to various cities throughout the country. Grant Ka`au`a was raised on Hawaiian music in Hilo and Waimea on Hawaii Island. A self taught musician, Grant has been performing professionally since the age of 13. Grant has experimented with several genres of music and he has made a name for himself as a lead singer and songwriter for the popular reggae group Mixjah. Several of Grant’s original songs have received heavy radio play and numerous online hits and downloads. Hawaiian music has always been the root of Grant’s musical inspiration. TR Ireland is from a large `ohana which provided him the musical basis and influence throughout his life. While his main musical influences include many members of his own and extended family, he has been exposed to a great variety of artists during his travels, including many of those in his home community of Keaukaha. TR continues to love the music of his homeland, and is grateful for the opportunity to play this nahenahe mele o Hawai`i nei. Mahalo ke Akua. The Young brothers, Kalei and Kiliona, started off their music career by traveling with their family Polynesian show in Korea and Japan. Theyi eventually settled down on the island of Hawaii, where they became known for their versatility as musicians, playing with popular bands such as Moemoea, Basic Human Tones, Kamoiwa Productions, The Mana Maoli Collective, and are currently key players in the up and coming all star band Po and the 4fathers. Throughout the years, the Kuahiwis have had the honor of sharing the stage with some of Hawai`i’s greatest musicians, including such artists as Randy Lorenzo, The Lim Family, Kainani Kahaunaele, Uncle Richard and Kai Ho`opi`i, Moe Keale, The Makaha Sons of Ni`ihau and many others. The Kuahiwis are pleased to announce the release of their first full length album entitled, Hawaiian Music. At the heart of their music is a genuine Aloha for these islands and the desire to pass on Hawaiian music and culture from one generation to the next.
