This recording features Joel’s unique conception on solo classic guitar performing Jazz Standards, show tunes, pop tunes traditional American material and a few originals. This is Joel’s second recording as a leader. His first, Perry Airs ,is a Jazz Rock Blues fusion trio recording, surprisingly ahead of it’s time, is currently out of print. Joel Perry was performing solo guitar regularly at the historic Rainbow Room in Manhattan at the time of this recording. It is an accurate snapshot of what his playing in that room sounded like. He had a great time and felt the responsibility of being the sonic “connecting glue” that room as a stimulating experience. His playing rose to the occasion. You can put this on, lower the lights and sip wine and enjoy the wonderful and intimate sounds of New York wherever you are. The exciting Blues feel of Barbecue with John Brady on second guitar will really get you in the groove. The Scott Joplin rag The Chrysanthemum is meticulously performed. The Mingus Standard Goodbye Porkpie Hat is quite poignant. Check out the Spanish influence of Los Mismos and the authentic Brazillian feel of Corcovado. The intersting and informative liner notes of the CD was written by Grammy award winner James Patrick. Joel’s interpretatin of the Beatles classic In My Life is always a favorite!
