Los Robertos is Robert Miller...guitars, keyboards, and vocals Robert Batterton...bass, drums, rhythm guitar on "longliner" Mike Edwards...drums on "acrost the frost" Larry Jones and Clandestine audio...engineering and mixing LONGLINER... The interesting thing about "Longliner",is how it was written. Bob stopped by my place one afternoon, on a blazing mid-August day . He said he'd been messing around with a rythym guitar idea. Okay,cool . So we threw it down on REAPER ,which i had set up in the living room , along with a keyboard , because the back (studio) room, was hotter than HELL . So after a quick test, and one take later, Bob's listening with phones, and PECKING away at my KORG. Okay. . .so with one finger of each hand he POUNDS out a drum part . POOR KORG !! Next, a quick cold one ,and he picks up a bass that he left over here a month before , and played a part to get by . NO ONE in their right mind, would be over here on that particular day, and I'm thinking he's either on good one or he's on a mission !! Next thing I know, he's out the door !! He was here maybe an hour, leaves the bass again, and walking out the door says " F*** around with it " and just sing " row row row your boat ". WTF? In canticle ? He GONE . At that time, the heat in this place could not be compared to the pain and the heartache that he had been going through. Anyone that ever MET Bob, knew he carried his "heart on his sleeve", and I loved that about him. . . So anyway, after listening to what he had done, I laid down a keyboard and an electric guitar line that simply followed the drums!! DONE DEAL!! At that point I start singing " row...row..", like some comic crooner, and ironically, it opened up this canvas for a story about an issue he was dealing with. . .DONE DEAL !! Had we known, it could be in the Guinness Book of Records for the " fastest song ever written ". After that, Bob would say "ITS ALL SMOKE AND MIRRORS", . . .which meant playing acoustic drums, and killer bass lines. I, then fixed a couple clams , re- did the vocal, and called it a day. Hope you like the SONG, and the STORY. . .one thing for sure; whether it was the HEAT, or MOBY DICK, . Guinness wouldn't have put up with it !! LAYSTILL... Laystill is another tribute to a wonderful friend and longtime drummer for my band "Bluefish". ROGER ELLIS fell ill very suddenly. FUCK CANCER !! Even sadder, he went into a coma from other complications, and hung-on for months...hence ;LAYSTILL. The interesting thing about the recordings on this album, is that BOB BATTERTON really loved the song, after hearing it by BLUEFISH. A couple years later , he approached me about recording the song with a different feel that he was hearing. I felt very fortunate to not only record something with Bob again, but to lay tracks before HIS sudden, and tragic death. He never got the chance to hear his version of LAYSTILL. R.I.P. ROGER and BOB. DAYDREAM Daydream was the first song that Bob and I recorded. I had written it years before as an acoustic guitar instrumental. Looking for a song to get started, I wrote the lyrics about my son DEVIN WOLFGANG MILLER, and recorded some rough tracks. Bob took over from there playing drums and bass guitar, and brought the whole thing to life !! THANK YOU ROBERT LAYSTILL Reprise is yet another drum/bass track that Bob put on a cd for me. Different from first recording, which tracks i have no more, i figured a different twist here and there would be suitable !! ACROST THE FROST has long time friend MIKE EDWARDS on the drums. Mike has been the drummer in BLUEFISH since the death of ROGER ELLIS, and is absolutely a fantastic drummer. I am no jazz player, nor will I EVER be able to play like PAT METHENY, but i always loved the groove on his GIRLS NEXT DOOR. Thank you Mr. Metheny for years of dreamy music!!
