简介
This first album,"Holy Man With A Gun" is a subtle blending of musical genres...reawakening the relationship between passion and substance. This provocative approach draws the listener into the signature world of Denny James...a world of metaphor, engaging the listener to reflect upon their life experiences and ask...the hard questions. A little about me and the project... I have been playing in bars and clubs since I was fourteen years old, over twenty years, playing "covers", other folks music...I decided to venture out at the behest of family and friends to do my own CD Album project. The planning began in March of 2008, gathering material, re-working old songs, writing a few new ones, deciding on arrangements, vocals, instruments, a theme and a timeline. Recording the tracks began in the summer of 2008 and continued into the fall. Final mixing of sixteen songs occured through the winter months, then deciding to reduce the album to twelve songs to about forty-five minutes. A stereo master was engineered in March 2009, album cover and graphic design. Off to a production facility and then to you, the listener. I chose and wrote each song with a specific theme in mind... Track 1 "Holy Man With A Gun" People have asked me if I am the Holy Man With A Gun, NO! Far from it. The song is about the relationship between religious fanaticism, violence, self-delusion, cult leaders and blind allegiance to religious doctrine. The song ends with a warning, if we don't stand up and end the violence, it will end us. Track 2 "Not That Kind" The shallowness of a fellow who pursues a relationship from a purely physical and selfish perspective. He just can't commit. Track 3 "Fadin' Away" A conversation between an older man and a younger man about the pitfalls of chosing the wrong person for a life mate. Track 4 "Doin' Fine" Breakin' up is hard to do, especially when the person who broke up with you tries to come back after you're in a new relationship. Track 5 "Being Alone" You can't be friends once you've been lovers... Track 6 "Livin' Isn't Easy" A conversation between two friends about love, loneliness and the hope of finding a true love. Track 7 "Slowin' Down" It's about getting older and holding on to one's dreams. Track 8 "Cry Alone" About returning war veterans and the effects of war on their family and friends. Track 9 "Made Up My Mind" A bad relationship breaks-up and it's time to move on. Track 10 "Down in Ashville" A star struck musician sacrifices his lover for his career and regrets it. Track 11 "I live in A Dream" Unrequited love...or if you don't know what that means,it's the one who went away cause they couldn't return the love you gave them. Track 12 "Michael Has Come" An expected saviour appears, is killed, then goes on to be eulogized.
