by John BushA collection of lower-than-lo-fi tracks (well, call them sound experiments) recorded between 1993 and 1999, Meet begins with a track of over-processed beat-noise that sounds like it was much more fun to record than it is to listen to. The album gradually gives way to a recording of mashed wooden blocks with the attendant heavy distortion, and "Ivy City Interlocking," a track that begins with some soothing ambient textures, abruptly detours into a series of poorly recorded, heavily distorting beats. When Stephen Gardner cleans out the noise, however, he often comes out with some intriguing results, as on the experimental dub of "Brake Test" and "Nowa Huta," which evokes what the Tortoise-Oval soundclash should've really sounded like.
