I originally released this track on CD back in 1996. Now, 20 years on, its been given an audio 'face-lift', being remastered for online digital distribution. The track was inspired by the near messianic adoration of the Manchester United fans for Eric Cantona - 'The King' of Old Trafford. He captained the team to success after success in the 90s...and his name is still chanted at 'The Theatre of Dreams'. Eric will be 50 on May 24th, 2016; Manchester United are through to the FA Cup Final on May 21st and they're playing none other than Crystal Palace - a fan of which Eric infamously kicked in 1995, for which he served a 9 month ban, preventing him from playing. Upon his return in 1996, he led the team to the English Premiership title and FA Cup final, where they beat arch rivals Liverpool - the winning goal being scored by, of course, King Eric. Rumours abound of Eric, some day, returning to Old Trafford in an official capacity...and who knows...this could be sooner than many people think! One thing's for sure, 'The Return of [Eric] the King' would be hailed as one of the greatest football fairy tales to ever be told. Many good Christian folk await the second coming of Christ... ...the Old Trafford faithful await the second coming of Eric..."The saviour of our football team", as the crowd once chanted.
