This track also represents more of a traditional context of Maracatu and how it is performed traditionally in Recife, Brazil. Caboclo Big Chief features Hugo Linns on viola nordestina (10 string guitar from the northeast of Brazil) and Scott Kettner morphing maracatu and New Orleans rhythms on the drumset. *A caboclo (Portuguese pronunciation: [kɐˈboklu]; from Brazilian Portuguese, perhaps ultimately from Tupi kaa'boc, "person having copper-coloured skin"[1]) or caboco is a person of mixed Indigenous Brazilian and European (mixed Indigenous Brazilian and black ancestry is "cafuzo") or a culturally assimilated person of full Amerindian descent. This track aims to morph the similarities of the northeastern Brazilian Caboclo and New Orleans Mardi Gras Indian rhythms. Big Chief relates to the Big Chief Mardi Gras Indians. Over The Hills and Far Away features Nation Beat and MNY pmorphing the famous Led Zeppelin song into a maracatu. Voo Doom is a composition by legendary Brazilian percussionist Carlinhos Pandeiro de Ouro. The title refers to Voo Doo which refers the mix of African and American ancestors. Dia do Caboclo (Day of the Caboclo) is a compostion by Jorge Continetino of Forró in The Dark and Scott Kettner. Douglass St Shuffle is an original composition by Scott Kettner, Jeff Duneman and Aaron Shafer-Haiss. Douglass Street is where MNY has been holding maracatu classes and rehearsals for the past 10 years.
