This album "On My Way Home" features mostly my own compositions with a mixture of different cultural idioms inspired by dear friends I encountered in NYC and my trip oversees. Home is where the restless soul finds its rest. It is where a wander longs to be after a long and tiring journey. As an immigrant from Taiwan, trying to have my voice heard in the New York City as a composer, I often ask myself the question: Where is home to me? My thirteen years of living in the Big Apple has been an interesting journey full of stories with many tears, laughters, loneliness, love, despair yet hope. There are times I felt a sense of “homelessness” while searching for affordable housing to live in the expensive city as well as a spiritual haven of comfort and peace. The album opens with “On my way home”, which is written during my subway ride back to my apartment in Harlem-a predominately African American neighborhood with rich Jazz heritage. Though I often stand out as I walk down the street among the African Americans, it is the community I found much love and friendships and a place that I called “Home” in the past two years.
