Label co-founder Andrew Yukon returns for Bravura's sophomore release with 'Three Ages'. Eschewing the astral Italo sound laid down on his debut 'Supermoon', Yukon delivers two confident exercises in contemporary, machine-driven house music, backed up with a reworking from techno veteran Scott Fraser. The hypnotic title track cuts straight to the point, setting the tone with rolling sub bass, subtle swelling chords and a delerious, whistling synth loop. Evolving dusty drum patterns add more energy, before rhodes and synth chords begin the first of a series of rhythmic motifs which develop through the rest of the track. A stylishly executed nod to house music's early days, 'Paul's Dream' is a slightly tougher affair. Trax-era bass stabs and a ptiched-down vocal sample are framed by Yukon's insistent 808 and 909 drum patterns. The gradual introduction of a crisp, expansive synth chord adds tension, building to a heady plateau as the rhythms fall away, before dropping back in to start the journey for a second time. Scott Fraser remixes 'Three Ages', turning it into a trance-inducing 8 minute skyward cruise, laden with synth chord hits and lashings of space echo. The result of numerous over-dubbing sessions at the famed Scrutton Street Bunker studio, Fraser's reworking builds steadily from a solid bass hook, employing the original's distinctive snare riffs to add punctuation, whilst layers of synths guide the track towards a shimmering climax.
