The Reef is a Reggae/Hip-Hop band based out of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Combining elements of reggae, hip-hop, funk, and rock, The Reef sends a positive message of unity and personal empowerment. The band is formerly known as The New Rebelution and was formed by Andrew Misik, a.k.a. Drew Musik. Drew started his music career as a hip-hop artist and released his first album “less is more” under the M.C. name of Negative One in 2004. While producing these hip-hop tracks Drew polished up his guitar and vocal skills and was attending the Institute of Production and Recording. Drew performed with a spoof/comedy funk band called The Adjoining Separatists with Jimbo Slattery, Shawn Schuchard a.k.a Phone Jackson, and Chris Hicks in 2005 that was known for hectic rhythms and wild stage shows. Turning their focus to more serious projects, In 2007 Drew Musik, Phone Jackson, and Chris Hicks would play together in a newly formed hiphop-reggae band The New Rebelution with Rich “Professor” and Jordan Bird. Hicks would later leave the band to play with Jon Wayne and the Pain and was repalced by Scotty Z in 2009. The band changed their name to The Reef in 2009 and Released the album “rebitrh” in October of that year.
