简介
Matty Powell's debut full length album "Kiss the City" balances the passion of a moment of chance with a formal musical maturity and strutting confidence nurtured by the production experience of Juno Award winning Alec Fraser (Jeff Healey, Bo Diddley, Julian Fauth). Matty's unique and powerful voice floats above his beautifully crafted and poetic songs, while the strength of some of Canada's finest musicians fill the space behind him. With Al Cross (Great Big Sea, Big Sugar, Jane Sibery) on the drums, Mike Daley (Suzie Vinnick, Jeff Healey) playing guitar, Michael Fonfara (Lou Reed, Rhinoceros) on the keys and Alec Fraser on the upright and electric bass, there is no shortage of experienced talent on this record. And it shows. In his own words Matty describes "Kiss the City" like this... "I guess I kinda feel like it’s a scrapbook or a photo album. On this record there are these little and big moments that have been captured in my songs. And though they are my songs I don’t really ever feel like I own those specific moments, those stories, my voice as a songwriter is more of that of a narrator, watching all these things happen. Some of them to me, some to the people around me. And I guess when it all boils down to it I’m just trying to give those moments an opportunity to shine and be appreciated remembered. Much like you would take a photo of something so you could look back on it and smile. I don’t really know if there is an overall message or theme behind this record, but if I had to pick something, some sort of moral to the Kiss the City story. It’s probably just that it’s important to appreciate and you know, be aware of the simple beauty that surrounds us every day. Every days sorrow, every days joy, every days longing, every days frustration And well, I hope that with this album it maybe inspires people to And I hope that I’ve captured and done that beauty justice with this album."
