Published on occasion of Leonard Bernstein's 100th anniversary this album celebrates the magic of New York and the greatness of American Symphonic Music by some of its most famous composers: The charming score to one of Charles Chaplin’s most popular films » Modern Times« from 1936 is brought back to life. Moreover George Gershwin's masterpieces »Rhapsody in Blue« and »An American in Paris« as well as Leonard Bernstein's dazzling »Symphonic Dances from Westside-Story« are brilliantly recorded by Volker Hartung and his Cologne New Philharmonic Orchestra. Soloist is Italian pianist Filippo Faes. Gershwin himself wrote about his works: »I understand it as a sort of musical kaleidoscope of this fast paced melting pot called America, as our Blues, our crazy city New-York«.
