His hat may be in Vancouver, but his feet have been all over the world well-travelled producer & DJ AKLIMATIZE has taken his global soul experience and translated it into three fresh new joints for hearts and hips on discerning dancefloors from the West Coast to West London. The A side is a Puerto Rican stomper, recorded during his most recent visit to the old city of San Juan, Puerto Rico. Featuring the vocals of TOTIN AGOSTO, this slice of broken afro-rican soul has been getting rave reviews from the likes of Afronaught, Spiritual South, Simon Harrison, Argo, Probe DMS among others. This little nugget has been doing the business for me on the dancefloor for some time now. Always in the box and a solid joint that manages to combine edgy Latin overtones with tough scattered rhythms to great affect. Great stuff! SPIRITUAL SOUTH The flip side displays the AKLIMATIZE range even further, with a remix of Vancouver-based group NOVALUA and their track Grey. Featuring the silky vocals of Uruguayan-born VALERIA MATZNER, this mix places analogue synths over rolling latin breaks, sounding something like Stereolab on holiday in Cuba. Hard on the heels of this one comes a heavy hip hop bomb, from back in the day when they used to be uptempo floor-fillers! Featuring Miamis DEVIANT on the mic, What We Want is an ode to DIY culture and sets its sights firmly on the future, with its bruk-hop tempo, twisted synth stabs and two fingers to fake MCs. Ben Mono, III vibe (Philadelphia and Argo (Broken N Beat Radio) have all been spreading the message. The Aklimatize EP is just a taste of what is brewing deep in the underground of Vancouver, Canadas future music scene.
