Born in 1984 from Beaufort, SC, Curtis Smith known to many as Captain Kirt, is an American Christian hip hop artist, writer, and record producer. He is the owner and founder of the independent record label Wisdom Records and the co-founder of Wisdom Street Ministry which is scheduled to begin early 2015. Captain Kirt began experimenting with music in 1992 imitating rappers from that era. After the loss of his mother at the young age of 13, his love for music grew stronger. Music allowed him to express his pain through words and opened the door for healing and restoration. In 2003, Smith decided to turn his life around and leave the street life behind to live for the Lord by renewing his relationship with God. He was delivered and set free from bondage. Captain Kirt has written and recorded several songs which has allowed him to receive radio air time as well as several live performances. Many listeners are passionate about his music because it ministers a message of life through southern hip hop beats. While allowing this music to resonate to your spirit, you may hear that several artist from the 90s has influenced his writing such as Tupac, Master P, Andre 3000, Nas, Common, Jay Z, Uncle Snoop, and Kirk Franklin. His mission for spreading God’s Word through music will never end.
