Reviews and Lyrics Chills! Neko Case's love child... in a Tarantino film, melting my face off. Amber Edgar So Sam Smith got the James Bond theme tune gig – I can only assume that they didn’t hear this first or he’d have been out on his arse. A sultry storm-cloud of tune, that would sit comfortably on a Portishead / Winehouse album. Fantastic. Honey and Bile “Sting of a Kiss” is a spectacularly slow-burning, raw number populated by crunchy, ominous guitars and Everett’s powerful, expressive vocals. If possible, listen while staring out the window as the sun sets and nocturnal creatures come out to play." Grey Owl Point Sultry vocals, lush cinematic music dripping in melancholy... Dry as dragonfly wings breaking... Me like this! While I generally try not to make comparisons ... Can you say Beth Gibbons?... Repeat... Repeat. Neil Spence There are several reasons why one should visit Toronto, Ontario – great restaurants, the CN Tower, the Royal Ontario Museum, and a terrific music scene. And no, it’s not all about Drake, Feist, or Metric. There are dozens of emerging bands and artists to check, some of whom we’ve profiled recently (e.g., For Esmé). Another one to add to the list is Rebecca Everett. The singer-songwriter, who is originally from Victoria, British Columbia but has not established roots in the home of the Blue Jays, is getting set to release her third album, Seven Shades. The lead track is “Sting of a Kiss”. The song with its brooding, smokey, bluesy sound, has a suspenseful, cinematic quality a la Timber Timbre. It’s a song that would be perfect in either a future James Bond film or True Detective, which isn’t surprising as Everett has written music for television shows. This track is absolutely intoxicating. The Revue Torontonian Rebecca Everett might not be auditioning her song for the reboot of Twin Peaks but “Sting Of A Kiss” sounds like it should be place in their somewhere. “Sting Of A Kiss” creates a mood of desolation, obsession and loneliness….frankly she scares me….and I like it. Let's Not get Carried Away Canadian Rebecca Everett is on track with its latest EP Seven Shades. "The inspiration for the plate comes from somewhere between loss and faith," said Rebecca his latest album "mediation brings forgot, dark mysteries up to surface." One senses also frustrated undertones on the first single from the album "Sting Of A Kiss". It is deep and heavy tones that lays the foundation for the song, an electric guitar that whimsically lures, slow drums and a lethargic bass, but it's Rebecca Everett's voice that holds the song together. Her vibrant voice almost crying through the passages in the song, and it is clear that it is a loss that is the focus song. Bands of Tomorrow Now, THIS is a torch song. "Sting of a Kiss" smolders with sexuality and dark mystery. It's early James Bond with a southern twang.... Ride the Tempo "The newly released single “Sting of a Kiss” is a beautiful effort that conjures up a nice dose of stylized noir imagery from the 40s and 50s, with a subtle hint of mystery evoked by the reverb drenched guitar-work. The vocals are very passionate and the emotions are laid out in the powerful lyrics.." Dave Stepczyk Toronto, ON based artist, Rebecca Everett has just released her new EP, “Seven Shades”, which is a five song EP featuring the single, “Sting of a Kiss”. The single shows off Rebecca’s hauntingly beautiful vocals and almost hypnotizing beat that goes along with it perfectly. There is usually one song on an album or EP that leaves you wanting more, and the one that did this for me was the fourth song, “Mean Old Man”, it tells a story with the lyrics that makes you feel like you know the old man that she speaks of. The lyrics really give you a vivid picture of the man, which is not an easy task. I listened to this song over and over, and it never got old. The EP comes to a close with “Everything”, the more mellow of the tracks, which showcases Rebecca’s vocals a bit more and radiates a relaxing feel with the music. Although, the EP only consists of five songs, it is more than enough to realize that Rebecca is a very talented artist, and it has left me wanting to hear more from her.
