简介
The compositions on this seventeenth disc of compositions by MAX STERN are performed by the people with whom the composer collaborated and for whom they were conceived. Inspired poets, preachers, statesmen, social critics, political activists, and moralists, the Prophets of Israel were those through whom the Divine light of Eternity was refracted in word and voice. The Prophets neither preached nor wrote in a vacuum. They addressed the body politic of their time and its principal conflict - not whether to let faith in God prevail as a guide in personal life - but whether to let righteousness be the guide in public life, as well. 1 Magnificat Judaica Text: 1 Samuel 2:1-5, 9-10 /Haftarah: Rosh Hashanah/New year / Considered the most important prayer uttered by a woman in the Bible, a paradigm for the New Testament canticle, Magnificat (Luke 1:46-55). 2 The Lion Hath Roared (Aryeh Shaag) Text: Amos 3:1-2, 6-8 / Haftarah: Parashat Kedoshim /A call to faithfulness, this ancient text gazes upon the Chosen people's origins and destiny. 3 Behold, the Days Come (Divre Amos) Text: Amos 9:13-15 Haftarah: Parashat Vayesheb / Inspired by an address given by Israel's Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, to the United Nations. 4 Prophecy for the End of Days (Nevuat Acharit Hayamim) Texts: Ezekiel 28:25-26; Micah 4:1-2, 5 Haftarah: Parashat Vaera / Meshing contemporary choral idioms performers speak, sing, and play instruments. 5 Jubilation's Voice (Kol Tsofayich) Texts: Isaiah 35:10, 52:1, 52:7-9, 66:23; Psalms 81:2, 4-5/ Haftarah: Parashot Shoftim and Sabbath/New Moon. In a prophecy of consolation, Isaiah assures the People of redemption and return from exile. 6 Prophet or King (Navi O' Melech) Text: 1Samuel, from Chapters 8, 11 and 12 /Haftarah: Parashat Korach / The episode surrounding the coronation of the first king in the history of Israel.
