简介
Team ClasSick was formed in the dorms of UCLA during the fall of 2002. High school friends Spotlight and enzo.tanaka met R-Sun during their first year of college, and quickly identified hip-hop as a common interest. Their collective love for hip-hop encouraged enzo.tanaka to share his beat making hobby with R-Sun and Spotlight, who in turn began writing raps during school lectures. Before long, the two MCs were recording their vocals on a Dell computer microphone in their college apartment - dubbed the Palace. The creativity and originality generated by the three original membersof Team ClasSick became contagious, as the crew continued to expand in size. MCs HisPanik, Nemesis, Fafology, and KilloMic joined the ClasSick fold, and the Team began rocking stages across Los Angeles. Team ClasSick put out their first project, The Session: Volume 1, in December 2007. The project gifted them with opportunities to open up for artists as influential as Slick Rick and KRS-One, while working the underground college party scene. A classic from start to finish, Volume 1 included unforgettable tracks such as “Imagine,” “Radius Diminished,” “If I Gots to Choose a Coast,” “Lyricist Showcase,” and the ClasSick remix of “Ditty. In December 2008 the Team released their second project, The Session:Volume 2. Better than the first Session, Volume 2 included “Rockin Wit the Team,” “Back At It,” “I Watch the Sun,” “For My People,” and “If Ya,” among others. Although the project was packed with quality productions, the toll of putting out two classic projects strained the Team’s foundation, leading some of the members toward the decision to go their own directions. R-Sun and Spotlight took some time away to tend to their professional lives, but as any artist knows, they had an itch to scratch. The two MCs worked their way back into the musical medium by landing on the UCLA Bruin mixtape in consecutive years, and performing at the mixtape’s release parties. These doses of recording and performing ignited R-Sun to hit the studio, where he went on a recording rampage, writing and recording, “The Return of the Sun” mixtape, over the course of three months during the spring and summer of 2010. Featuring multiple appearances from Spotlight and the instrumental magic of enzo.tanaka, “The Return of the Sun” coincides with Team ClasSick coming full circle. Enzo on the beats. SL and Sun spitting heat. Born in Santiago de Chile, R-Sun immigrated to the United States with his parents at the age of 3. Overstaying their tourist visas, R-Sun and his family remained undocumented until they won a visa lottery in 1994. He grew up in Downtown Los Angeles’ McArthur Park neighborhood and developed a passion for hip-hop at a young age, citing “Doggystyle,” “Illmatic,” “Reasonable Doubt,” and “Moment of Truth” as the projects that influenced him most. R-Sun’s rhyme schemes are intricate and dense, his lyrics are imaginative, hard-hitting, and passionate, and his concepts refreshing, innovative, and real.
