It was in Stockholm, Sweden, during the winter of 1969, when everything started: Antonio Adolfo was the pianist in legendary Brazilian singer Elis Regina’s band. There she met the great Toots Thielemans, who was introduced to her by a record Company. And from that magic meeting resulted the immediate recording of the classic album "Elis & Toots – Aquarela do Brasil". Several years later Antonio met Hendrik Meurkens, another incredible harmonica (and vibes) player, and they became close friends. After working together in Florida and New York the idea was born to record together and invite the very talented Carol Saboya from Rio de Janeiro to create an album of original compositions and the most famous song combined with lesser-known masterworks of Antonio Carlos Jobim. For two weeks in June of 2014 they met in New York, rehearsed, played several shows, and then, just as the Elis & Toots meeting in 1969 came about, they recorded this album, a celebration of authentic Brazilian Jazz. As stated by vocalist Carol Saboya, "this meeting with her father Antonio and Hendrik was magical, with great energy, beautiful music and wonderful musicians being part of it! The album features, besides Antonio Adolfo (piano and musical arrangements) and Hendrik Meurkens (harmonica and vibraphone), a Brazilian All Star rhythm section featuring Itaiguara Brandão (bass), Adriano Santos (drums), Claudio Spiewak (guitars) and André Siqueira (percussion), each of them a first call master of Brazilian music." And according to Hendrik Meurkens, " the music Brazilian MPB (música popular brasileira) mixed with jazz, and all this performed and recorded in two of the most cosmopolitan places of them all, New York City and Rio de Janeiro."
