简介

Sheila Rudolph (Vocalist for The Yogurt Slingers) said this about SQUAMATA. "I sat down and turned on 3:06 (the meat wagon song) and I immediately started to wonder if I accidentally put something in my tea that I shouldn’t have. It’s eerie and strange and makes me feel like I’m on some sort of an audio acid trip (which is an actual thing might I add, look it up ya hippy). I know that there is some sort of spoken word going on, but I have no fucking idea what’s being said. Honestly, the more I listened to this the more terrified and paranoid I became. But before I even had time to look over my shoulder to see if someone might be about to attack me, the song ends. But I’m not safe yet. Fail comes on and I instantly get smashed in the face with distortion, feedback and some pretty fucked up guitar sounds. The verse is very heavy and incredibly angry. It kind of makes you think that the vocalist might come through your head phones at any minute and start punching you in the throat. But then the chorus comes in, which is extremely melodic and seems to be heavily and beautifully inspired by Nirvana mixed with a little bit of Alice in chains. This song sent me on an emotional rollercoaster ride. I went from feeling rage, to a mellow almost dream like state, than rage, than mellow, than I was almost angry again because the guitars make you think for a second that there is more, but it suddenly ends. And trust me, I was not ready for it to end. Up next was Hooked, which is a very informative song about heroin addiction, and if you are a true punk fan you have to be just as knowledgeable about heroin as the music itself. Okay, so that last part of the sentence may not be very true. *Cough* So anyway, the vocals are as gut wrenching as the lyrics, and the drums are as heavy hitting as junk after it hits your brain and your body crashes to the floor. If by chance you are asked to do a project or write up on heroin or morphine, just listen to this song and you would be able to stand up and give a speech on it, instead of just writing a shitty little paragraph or two. Last but not least was Decaying Matter. Now this song opens up with a very metal (dare I say, green jelly?) inspired sound which is well complimented by it’s very grungy chorus. Staying true to the last three songs the subject matter is pretty intense. This song is probably my favourite of the four. It’s got a good predictable beat and I always find myself grooving to it whenever it comes on. I especially enjoy the sound that is made after the lyrics “decaying matter in your chest” simply because it reminds me of someone who woke up from an all night drunk fest and runs to the bathroom where he becomes violently ill. That may very well be because I severely lack maturity and laugh at fart and vomit sounds. So who knows, you may find that the sound doesn’t remind you of vomit at all, but it doesn’t matter because you are not the one writing the review, are you? All in all, I am a huge fan of these songs. I love the fact that they are more of a 90’s grungy type of punk since that was the sound which got me into heavy bands as a teenager. My gateway into rebellion and freedom, if you will. "
