简介
Writers, Artists, Musicians... is a thread that is common in The Melawmen Collective, yet it is their differences that create this unique work. Meeka Morgan (Secwepemc/Nuu-Chah-Nulth, Indigenous to what is now known as Canada), comes from a traditional Indigenous background, obtained a Master of Arts Degree from Simon Fraser University in BC, focusing on the creation of music, song, and storytelling throughout the processing of her people's experience traditionally and throughout colonization... her singing has been compared to Grace Slick. Indigenous Hip Hop artist George Ignace, Geo aka The Voice (Secwepemc/Cree) focuses on practicing traditional food gathering and food processing, taking what he needs from the land and making beats and rhymes that lead the mind to places the body hasn't been. Rob Hall is a high scaler (think ~ hanging off of cliffs for a living) of 35 years, is also the leader of the rock reggae band the 'Ghengis Gandhi's', who loves to play music and create art in it's many forms. All together ,they combine their varied backgrounds into a contemporary, and yet, traditional musical journey through life and all of it's whismical wild wonder... Their style has been considered a musical 'Non-re', meaning that it seems to fit no genre, it's styles vary and include alternative hip hop, rock, roots, reggae, and many styles in between. What it's really about is telling a story and sharing it with others, to create the common respect, empathy, and humanity that lie within our varying perspectives.
