Niels Viggo Bentzon is one of the most prolific composers in the history of Danish music. he has written hundreds of works: 60 pieces for Symphny orchestra, 120 compositions for chamber groups, music for film, theatre, ballet... with a special mention for his 12 compilations of Piano solos, called the "tempered Piano" Each of the 12 volumes counting 24 pieces. Bentzon was a great concert pianist, a great performer be it in traditional contexts or as part of the fluxus mouvement, and an emjoyable and unpredictable improviser. These improvised piano pieces were produced by Hasse Poulsen in cooperation with DR, the Danish Radio. First there are 26 miniatures, recorded as they were played, there has been no editing neither with the music nor the pauses between the pieces. Then he improvises a symphonic form in three parts, including two parts with preparatios on the piano, making the best piano in the radiohouse rattle like a box of nails. These are the only known recording of the improviser Niels Viggo Bentzon.
