The Shifters write songs, creating their own atmosphere from elements of rock n’ roll, blues, swing, country and other down home oddities Like time travelers, these genre jumpers are revelers of their own making, not content to duplicate the past, but nuance it’s many facets into their own original world view. Here-in are passionate, haunting and sultry female vocals, as well as strong male vocals textured by a powerful mix of violin, lap steel, sax, harp, clarinet and electric guitar.These songs are destine to become part of the future song-scape. Mary Anne has a unique style of song writing. She combines elements of rhythm and chords that are often unexpected resulting in charismatic melodies that are rhythmically diverse . She has previously recorded an album of her original songs which was produced by Mike Love of the Beach Boys. Her acoustic guitar is dynamic, her vocals sensitive and expressive. Bill McLaughlan plays acoustic and electric guitar. The source of his inspiration is a well spring of guitar players spanning early blues up to todays masters. Writing songs is a way to keep his sanity and hopefully what rubs off on the listener will put them on the edge of a discovery. Mike Kligerman has an innate ability to absorb and play all forms of music on variety of instruments. He plays violin, lap steel and electric guitar on the Shifter CD. At a live gig he’ll also pick up the button accordion, viola and basically whatever else is required.
