简介

REVIEWS FOR "Notes From My Father" "Lynn's smooth style and the sensitive accompaniment of the big band is a pleasure to hear. Thank you for playing my arrangement so well - you sound wonderful!" - Arranger, George Stone "You are a great singer and I really enjoyed hearing the record. It's an old arrangement I recorded with Helen O'Connel in the 50's. For the last several years I have been working exclusively with Tony Benett and Lady Gaga. My best to your and your singing career." - Arranger Marion Evans We just love your new CD, "Notes From My Father". We especially enjoyed the two songs sung with your father. We have it in the car and have been playing it for the past 2 weeks and haven't listened to any of our other CD's. That's a real compliment, because we must have hundreds. We so look forward to listening to you in person every Friday. - Viva Cantina Patrons "Notes From My Father" Liner Notes Lynn Keller – One day in early 2001, I decided to start singing again. I had some singing experience when I was in school, but life had taken me in another direction. I talked with my Dad who was a professional musician all his life about taking singing lessons. He said, “Honey, I’ll take you as far as you want to go.” This began my exploration into the vast, life-changing world of music. It’s been an odyssey of learning about my voice; growing my performance abilities; expanding my confidence as a musician; and, making music an integral part of my life. It was the launch of a new dimension of our father/daughter relationship – we became musical cohorts and relished the collaboration every day that followed. Hence, “Notes From My Father,” is a tribute to the many hours we spent as mentor and student relishing our mutual appreciation for music. How did Dad encourage me? He directed me to a legendary vocal coach. He shared his favorite music with me encouraging me to listen to music greats. We went to band practice together and listened to different types of bands. He taught me how to listen to develop a “good set of (musical) ears.” We sang together in concerts and in a jazz choir. He encouraged me to find good qualities in other performers and to integrate their ideas in my own style. He was certain that if I worked with singers and performers who were better than me, their talents would rub off. Practice, technical expertise and determination would always pay-off he said. When I was discouraged, he said I could tackle musical problems because the answers were “in my DNA,” there was no escape! He clung to the enjoyment of music like he did to life itself as a way to stay connected to the world during his 90 years of life. He taught me so much and gave me the connections so I could make my own way -- setting me free to accomplish anything I imagined! Art Depew – Enjoyed a 62-year career as a trumpet player and accomplished musician. He worked many years with the great musicians such as: Tommy Dorsey, Glen Miller, Ray Anthony, and Tex Beneke to name a few. He toured with Harry James and years later, conducted the Harry James Orchestra traveling through the U.S., and concertizing abroad for 18 years. He produced two Dixieland CD’s and one CD entitled, “Art Depew and His Orchestra.” As a personal challenge, he produced a CD called “Art Depew Does It All.” It seems, this album title could have been a testament to his life. He embraced others with curiosity and interest wanting to connect and understand them. He was always looking for an audience to share his thoughts and jokes. He was dogged about his musical pursuits and about gaining value from his musical experiences. He loved his friends and colleagues – frequently calling them through the years to maintain contact. He appreciated an audience and the opportunity to perform and could instantly command a room. He touched many performers, acting as mentor, coach, cattle prod! He wanted to get the best from others and most people loved him for it. Art loved his family, his friends, his pets and his life musical accomplishments in life. One day, I asked him why he often had that special gleam in his eye. He said, “The secret to life is doing what you love. I’ve been able to do what I wanted all my life.” Art Depew lived the dream!
