Valoo ( born Valérie Douillon on November 16, 1970 ) is a French singer & song writter . She started singing at the age of fifteen, performed at 18 with mamy bands and turned professional at 24. She spent a number of years touring France with her husband, performing jazz standards and great French songs. Her experiences provided the basis of her album PATCHWORK which she wrote lyrics & music. It was recorded in La Buissonne, one of the most famous jazz studios in France. It is the result of a six years work (a period she chose to care for her two young sons) and of two important meetings: Gérard de Haro, the director of the studio & Joel Gombert, a jazz guitarist who became Valooʼs arranger and a friend of hers. Valoo has cited Ella Fitzgerald, The Beattles, Barbara, Charles Trenet, Ray Charles & Aretha Franklin as influences on her music. Her original style arose from a fusion of all these influences: gospel & folk songs, jazz & soul. Her warm vocal timbre & her vocal technique make her an accomplished and unique artist.
