简介
My name is Māya (May-uh, as in the month) and I write songs. As a child, my obsessions were birth, death and history (you know, normal kid stuff) and my notebooks were always full of mummies, skulls and sometimes fetuses (normal kid stuff). Along with my morbid fixations, I was fascinated by music, as I grew up in a musical household. When I wasn't contemplating the meaning of my existence or grappling with my constant, asphyxiating sense of mortality, I was always singing, always dancing and always making up new words for songs and scratching them down in a little purple notebook with hearts on it. As I began to learn guitar around age 9, my writing skills became stronger and I began to channel my many, many emotions into original compositions. My inspiration came from not only my internal struggles, but also my worldly observations. My dark childhood interests manifested into my teenage preoccupations; horror movies, crime documentaries, or watching CNN. I became more aware of the people around me, how they lived and how they responded to life. Even more so I became aware of myself. These themes, the raw and often sore truth of how people can be, shaped my debut album, "Whatever You Are," which doubles as a compilation of songs I wrote during high school, which was probably one of the lowest points in my life. But I live for angst. It inspires my work. So as you go on listening, I encourage you to put yourself in the place of the subject. Listen to their stories, for you may even hear your own.
