简介
In 1985, I began studying the history and techniques of electronic music under the direction of Charles Bestor at the University of Massachusetts. Several years later I was in the MFA program at Mills College studying the same subject. The following pieces are from this early period of mine. The final two pieces were improvised more recently and added here, to fill out the CD. SCRILL (1989) - performed live, no overdubs, on the Buchla TOUCHE synthesizer. Simultanious shaping in three directions. BROKEN HEART (1987) - collages phrases and fragments of phrases using a digital delay (perception) THROWDOWN(1986) - melodic patterns are derived directly from the underlying drumline (perception) FIRST MIRAGE(1986) - uses sampled voices , a balloon and DX7. (war) MANAWOMA(1987) - two measures of a 5/4 funk rhythm develop patterns via sampled voices and instruments (propagation) SPLIFFID(1985) - a musique concrete piece utilizing three sounds from a bicycle. GIANT STIPS(1989) - performed live, no overdubs on the TOUCHE synthesizer. Exploring the music of low frequency fundamentals. NEUROACTIVITY(1989) - the first sound heard is the progenitor of all that follows. REGENERATION (1994) - 8 TURNTABLES (1995) - uses 8 turntables to play 15 LP's of world music. Carefully scored and practiced. Performed live. ENTRANCE WEB (2009) - solo improvisation with piano and microKorg. Performed live, no overdubs. AFTER-STORM DROPLETS (2009) - solo improvisation with piano and microKorg. Performed live, no overdubs. Special thanks to Charles Bestor for giving me a foundation upon which to build and to Anthony Braxton for confirming permission to build on that foundation.
