简介

One night I was listening to a haunting tune by Ray Wylie Hubbard called "Mother Blues" as I drove through the Texas Hill Country. I went back home and fell asleep. As I slept, I had a nightmare. I dreamt that I was going down the road, towards a great light in the distance, but when I looked in the rear view mirror all I saw was a fast approaching darkness -- just like that kind of black nothingness of space. I spun around on the road and instantly both ways became darkness. I felt like I knew the right way down the road, but I could no longer see the light. As I woke up, I had a tune immediately come to my head with lyrics and everything. That song became “Going Down the Road”. I lived with that tune for a few days, and thought about what that nightmare had all meant. One night as I was laying in bed, I realized that my nightmare was about my fears about my path in life. It is hard to know if you are going the right way, taking the right forks in the road, and if you’ll ever see the light at the end of the tunnel. I realized that whatever path feels right, you just have to take it towards the light. I thought about the greater context of my experience -- why did I feel the way I did? I ultimately felt that what I was feeling was somewhat similar to other people of the millennial generation: I had moved back home with my parents for a bit, I wanted to just travel the world for a while, and get a big hit on the radio with my music. I wrote the album to overcome some of those fears and come to terms with some of those feelings I had been imbued with by society and the millennial generation. I aimed to make an album that was as great as Fleetwood Mac’s “Rumours”. I wanted every single song to be perfectly written, just like that album. I don’t think I got close to achieving that, at least in terms of recording. Nevertheless, I listened to that album every day as I wrote the songs. It served as a huge inspiration. Some of the recordings are a bit rough, and there’s scant instrumentation on several pieces. Regardless of that I think the quality of the songwriting is there. Whatever your thoughts are about this album, I hope you have as much fun listening to this as I had making it!
