Kendall started writing songs and performing at the age of 16 and soon quit high school to go after his dream of making music for a living. After 3 publishing deals, 2 bands, 1 near death experience and throat cancer he made a promise to himself that he would make his dream a reality. The son of a minister, Kendall would often sneak into church when no one was there to draw inspiration and play the organ or piano. His father moved the family around a lot and soon Kendall found comfort in change and a chameleon-like persona. "When people ask me what my music is like I have no idea what to tell them. I don't subscribe to any ideology musically. If something works then it works. The writing is what's important to me. The meat and potatoes of a song are the melody, concept, context and subtext. The production isn't as important to me. The music industry is very concerned with the icing on the cake. As a culture, we compartmentalize and then homogenize music so that it's easier to sell. That's not me." Kendall's songs are anything but homogenized even in his own repertoire. His songs range from introspective and dark to humorous and frenetic. It would be hard pressed to find a song like Microfilm and a song like I Get Dumb (from last summers release Giving Birth To Reason) on the same CD by most artists. I want to create a work that is unafraid to show different perspectives and emotionally complex while at the same time having a sense of humor and irony. Kendall's new release Ain't Love Queer/ Plain White Wrapper, focuses more on the humor and irony side of his writing." It's a combination of 2 5 song EPs produced over the last year. " I just wanted to blow off steam and show people a good time" he says. This is exactly what he did when he played Bearapalooza (a showcase of gay musicians from all over the country) in NY City last summer . His live performances are a mix of spoken word, comedy, unique staging,quick costume changes,video and song. He performed for 8 years in Club Marcella's Life's A Drag, the longest running Drag show in the country, and the influence on his performance is apparent. "I learned how to capture people's attention and entertain them in 3 to 4 minute increments. I would have to do at least 3 different songs a night and I tried to make each number unique and compelling." To say Kendall has different personas is like calling a schizophrenic Moody. He writes from pure inspiration and creates a colorful and provocative landscape where everything goes and anything can happen. Kendall has been featured on many compilations including Bear Tracks 1, 2&3 released on Woobie Bear Music which will also be releasing a retrospective of Kendall's work this summer called Re-Kindled.
