简介

This is Bobby's first release to the world of digital downloads and his first effort to make it onto disc ever. The first 3 tracks: Brand New Freak, Free Yet, and Sweet Potato were originally released in limited quantities in 1992 as a 3 song demo cassette debuting Bobby as a Chicago songwriter and artist. Remastering was done in 2011 at LNL Recording by Larry Kriz and Bobby Rex in May 2011. Additional performers on the initial 3 tracks were Rob Medinger drums, JR Fuller bass guitar, Mike Lipsey & Foghorn saxophones, and Beth Swaggerty & Chris Kellick on background vocals. Rob Reddrick did the engineering for these 3 songs which were recorded at Hi-Visions Studios on Chicago's Southside in March and April 1992. The title track Brand New Freak is a steamy R&B groove with rock and soul overtones, and a lyrical style of Bob Dylan. The true story describes how difficult it can be to walk away from seduction. The second track Free Yet is an uplifting and jazzy song inspiring hope. Sweet Potato rocks out with guitar riffs and a funky saxophone. Fillin' Station is rock and roll of America's heartland recorded live at Hair Bear Studios in Alsip, IL August 1997. Additional musicians on Fillin' Station were Gene Tenuta electric guitar, Bob Boyle drums, Paul Allodi bass guitar, Jon Johnson keyboards, and Tom Malec saxophones. Clarendon Hills Road is a song inspired by the street Bobby Rex lived on during the late 90s and early 2000s in Illinois' DuPage County. Bobby performs all the instruments and vocals on it. The last track, Deep Blue Sea was recorded with Bobby singing and performing most of the instruments as well. Chris Grant added the violin and mandolin. This song itself is over 100 years old. A science teacher at Bobby's grade school, St. Denis Catholic on Chicago's Southwest side used to play this number on banjo for the children year afer year, and when Bobby's band Bobby Rex and the Nomds aka Biff and the Waybacks performed at the grade school reunion for over a thousand guests in 2010 this was one of the highlights. Engineer on this recording is Larry Kriz. See Bobby perform most Saturday nights at Lovell's of Lake Forest in a two man acoustic show. Bobby remains active in the Chicago live music scene. All songs written and produced by Bobby Rex. Cover photo taken by Frances Recchia.
