The Spann Brothers was organized in July of 2011 when James Spann decided to form his own group. After singing background for many years, he decided to step out on his own. James Spann got his experience singing background with the Crowns of Joy from January 1981 to February 1989. At that time Donald Spann and Larry Avant were also members as well under the leadership of the late Rev. Tom Bill Avant, the father of Tommy and Victor Avant (who taught us all about singing), and their brother Robert, would always be around. His brother-in-law Bernard was a former member of the Melody Kings of Starkville, Mississippi. Special thanks to Brother Cleo Sanders of Radio Station 106.1.
