简介

Brief foreword: Elizabeth Rebozo is a formidable pianist. She came to Los Angeles in May 2012. On the 11th., she played an unusual and most welcome recital at California State University, Los Angeles. She convinced and captivated, Her audience greatly appreciated her artistry. Also, they warmly applauded her programming: instead of Chopin or Brahms, or Debussy, she played Ignacio Cervantes, Alberto Ginastera and Andrés Alen –who happens to be a Cuban composer and also a first rate pianist. Rebozo performed with excellent technique a demanding program. She was able to produce robust sounds when these were called for, as in Ginastera’s first and third of his Danzas argentinas, as well as tender lyrical lines as in the Contradanzas of Saumell or in Lecuona’s Danza Interrumpida. All through her recital she paved that a pianist can deliver all the nuances of a Shubert sonata, all the Fireworks of a Liszt étude, all the profundity of a Beethoven adagio when playing the refreshing unfamiliar Sones Sencillos of Carlos Fariñas, the virtuosic Suite El Batey of Yalil Guerra, or the intense Preludio número 1 of Aurelio de la Vega. The central piece of the recital was Guerra’s six substantial segments wich constitute his Suite El Batey. Each one of the highly pianistic movements that delineate the suite offers a challenge to the interpreter, and each one was superbly recreated by Rebozo. Also welcomed was the fact that the pianist selected three of Lecuona’s dances which are less familiar, avoiding the ever-present well known ones based on Afro-Cuban rhythmic patterns. Elizabeth Rebozo is by now an international performer of growing statue. She can make the piano sing or roar, transforming the pianist from a mere recreator of notes into a true refined artist with a cause. We know Rebozo’s cause. We know of her sacrifices for always injecting into her music making a high degree of musicianship, with no bland or easy compromising. We know she is capable of communicating her musical sonority with her audiences, arousing in them, through her playing, an enthusiastic belief in the higher forms of art. Above all, we know –and are deeply moved- by her obsession with bringing to the listener the art music of Latin American composers, so Little known in the United States and throughout Europe. The present recording captures Rebozo’s Los Angeles concert of May 2012. It closes with an encore by Piazzola. To listen to this CD is a fulfilling experience, one that leaves the auditor with a wondrous taste in the mouth, a refreshing aural spectrum of good sounds in the ear, a warm and tender smile in the face, and a beautiful pulsation of discovery and awe in the heart. Brava! And many thanks…! Aurelio de la Vega Northridge, California.
