简介
As a young boy in Jersey City, Steven's grandma stood him on a table at a Knights of Pythias Talent Show. Singing “Delilah,” Tom Jones style, in front of a supportive audience left a profound effect on Steven. Years later, when college was over, he plotted his escape to NYC. Once there, he was cast in a Broadway Show as a guitar playing gypsy. He lived on 8th Street in the Village in NYC and played gigs at lots of bars. He also wrote an Off-Off Broadway Rock Opera and had one of his songs performed on the original Star Search. He decided to ply his trade as a singer-songwriter and move to Nashville. So he loaded up his blue VW bug (which was missing pieces of it's floor) and headed down the road. One hundred or-so miles later he turned around, went back to NYC, struggled as an artist for a few more years, then married the love of his life and became an audio-book producer. He also became a Cantor and a Rabbi. Steven writes and performs in the Americana genre and his songs and lyrics reflect his musings on relationships, faith, love and fantasy. The "Shed Sessions" album was recorded literally in a shed in Lake Worth, Florida. With just two mics and no overdubbing, the trio recorded nine of Blane's tunes and a cover of 1954's "Earth Angel." - "Any Kind of Fool" -- this tune is more rootsy Americana than classic-retro-pop-soul, with some great arpeggio-response parts by Luba. - "Manhattan Melancholy" -- I love New York City and miss her when I'm not there - "Couldn't Sleep" --classic retro tune about lost love - "Hung My Head" -- I was thinking Neil Young. It came out this way- another ode to political insanity - "Pink Martini" - Just a fun, beach tune in a blues format - "Proclaim Liberty" -- This song is bluesy, rolling, dark. It came to me form a place of political desperation. - "More Than You" -- This is a bluesy ode to truth. There's always someone more than you - "These Priests" -- Perhaps this is G'd's perspective on all spiritual leaders - "Warm Thighs" -- This is sultry, sexy, suggestive, and dare I say as subtle as a pointed gun. Great solo by Luba and driving Bass by Kevin - "Earth Angel" - Yes, from 1954! A great tune to sing.
