While some of you may know us for our country/Americana oriented music such as ‘LONG NIGHT MOON’, we were recently inspired to involve ourselves in a new project. Osborne Jones consists of David Osborne and Gwyn Jones. Gwyn is English/Welsh and David is English with some Romany and Scandinavian heritage and an American resident for most of his adult life. We’ve always loved British and Irish folk music, one of the major antecedents of Country music and then Gwyn was alerted to a century old poem by one James Elroy Flecker from an Irish musician called Joseph Quinn. ‘To a poet a thousand years hence’ became the catalyst to explore his work further and what a treasure trove we found! During his short life, Flecker was quite prolific and his richly imaged verses lent themselves perfectly to the songs you will hear on this album. His themes of London and pastoral life in Victorian England, Classic mythology, and his travails in love and life lit up the page and compelled us to provide a vehicle for them for the 21st century. I WAS A POET, I WAS YOUNG is the result of this collaboration across the years. We hope you enjoy his musings as much as we do and feel that we have done some justice to the words of James Elroy Flecker.
