简介

This album is very much about walking backwards to the future. Back to the early eighties and from there in a different direction. From new romantic and new wave to a beautiful electronic future. Descending - The top floor of the department store contains a luxurious restaurant. Using your last resources you eat a magnificent meal and buy a fashion magazine. Dreaming over the glossy pages you descend the escalator. Suddenly you realise you must be many floors below ground level. The landings are small concrete rooms with elevator doors and a fountain. There are no longer people around. The grey concrete walls have mirrors all over. No escalator is going up. The elevator isn’t working. All fountains are dry. Everything seems strangely dead. The only sound is the humming from the escalator. Maybe the elevator works on the next floor?. But all landings are the same. You try to run upwards, but after seven floors you get tired, and after ten more you are completely exhausted and have to stop. You start descending again. There has to be a floor where something works. But the escalator never stops. Reality drops. Or is it your life falling apart? The title track is inspired by the excellent novel ”Descending” by Thomas M. Disch. But the novel has a much darker feel and ending. My adaptation of the plot has no end. And live the ”basement area” version never ends. Sort of. Read the novel in ”Fundamental Disch”. Sadly it’s out of print, but it can be found second hand. All songs written, arranged, performed and produced by Anders Wikholm. Rythm consultant on ”Spellbound”: Magnus Danielsson. Recorded in The Mill on seven Adat tracks synced to the ASR-10 sequencer. Guess how many ERROR-144 REBOOT I got? Instruments used: Korg: Trident, Ms-10, Ms-20, Mono/Poly, DW 6000, PS-3100. ARP: Odyssey. Oberheim: Matrix-6, Matrix-1000, DPX-1. Sequential: Prophet 2002+. Ensoniq: ASR-10. Kawai: K3m. Mastered at Cutting Room by Peter in de Betou, except ”I Can’t Sleep” mastered by Henrik Jonsson. Cover design and photo by Veronica Abrahamsson. Background photo by Maria Näsström and inlay inside photo by Martin Alfredsson. Cover layout & treatments: Randolph Carter. I got the idea for ”Maria Calling” when I watched the play ”Fågelpappan” by Staffan Götestam (performed by Östersunds Teaterverkstad). ”The Tower” and versions of ”Dramatic” appeared in the TV drama ”Från Bosnien” directed by Viking Johansson. Thanks to everyone involved in this project.
