简介
As the name implies, Melt draws from a variety of styles and 'MELTS' them together. While Melt would categorize themselves as a “dark alternapop” band, they are one that incorporates things not normally considered to be part of that genre. Several songs utilize either world or tribal rhythms, Eastern scales, big band swing, novelty, classical, blues or anything else they think is exciting or different, while still staying true to their post-punk roots. Band History: Bassist Paul Pipitone had been on the local Boston circuit for several years and was looking to form something new that was dynamic and jarring, yet still melodic. Initially, he wanted to combine punk, art rock, goth and funk. As part of the foundation, he tries to come up with lines that are both rhythmically strong and emotionally moving. A kindred spirit was found in lead guitarist Dan Inzana, also a veteran of the Boston rock underground. The two instantly connected and their playing/writing styles and personalities complemented immediately. Dan’s style is a combination of alternative, funk and atmospheric. His playing is soaring and driving but can quickly change, on a dime, into myriad tonalities. Next on board was drummer, Ben Lyons. Ben added immediate fire, excitement and humor. Whether adding lyrics or driving thunderous patterns, his enthusiastic versatility brings rhythms from all over the globe while sounding authentic and powerful. The addition of Lindsey Kyte, classically trained soprano extraordinaire, completed and vastly improved the band. From the second she belted out her first note, it was clear she was the voice and front person required. Utilizing her background in choral, church and theatre music, and mixing them with her unique and quirky personality, she complemented the music in exciting new ways. To capitalize on the desire for diversity, during live performances, Melt often has the assistance of Mel Fitzhugh. Mel is a well-known, classically trained multi-instrumentalist who plays in several Boston bands. She joins Melt on violin, trumpet, background vocals or second guitar on approximately half their set. As Supporters of several social causes and charities, and a regular fixture on the Boston scene, you will find Melt playing all kinds of shows, doing originals and interesting takes on covers. In spite of the “dark” rock label, the band’s often subversively humorous lyrics enable ALL to have a good time and enjoy a night with Melt. They have received several positive local reviews and did quite well in both the Emergenza and Locoboozooka music festivals, winning their preliminary nights in both.
