简介
by Stewart MasonBored rock geeks often like to while away the time by playing a variation on the old childhood vacation game license plate bingo: try to name a band from every state in the union. National Product is ideal for this diversion, because although the band is currently based in Huntington Beach, CA, they originally formed on the island of Oahu in Hawaii, which just as with the license plate game is by far the most difficult state to come up with a rock artist from. (No, "Tiny Bubbles" singer Don Ho does not count as rock.) This factoid is the sum total of the utility of National Product's existence, because their debut album, Luna, is an absolutely deadening example of circa-2007 alterna-rock by numbers, likely of little interest even to the suburban high school emo kids once would expect to be its primary demographic. Everything about the music, from singer Danny Casler's anonymous voice and the rote angst of his lyrics to the unimaginative, radio-ready production and inert mall-punk tunes, is adequate at best and deathly boring at worst. Luna is an album so terminally bland that it's not even possible to dislike it with enthusiasm.
