简介
Evelyn began singing and playing as a teenager around the pubs and folk clubs of Dublin in well-known venues such as Toners and The Baggot Inn. Her love of performing took a back seat while home, family, and a career in Fashion dominated her life. However, of recent years she returned to her early love of music, performing with the band 'Soulong Sister'. Her own songs were so well received by audiences that Evelyn was encouraged to write more. A creative and fruitful phase has resulted in her album Overdue Review. Coming from the background of religious and political strife that forced her family to leave Belfast during the troubles, it is little wonder Evelyn has a penchant for socio-political topics. " I don't deliberately set out to write 'issue' songs but when the topics inspire me the words seem to flow with the greatest of ease." The songs 'GOMBEEN BLUES'and 'FAMINE OF THE SOUL' deliver strong condemnation of the players in the Irish economic crisis; while 'OCEAN OF TEARS' captures the story of victims and survivors of Clerical abuse in the Magdalene Laundries and Industrial Schools of Ireland. There is also a deeply reflective side to Evelyn's work and some of the songs touch on personal yet Universal emotional experiences. " Whether the story is my own or someone elses, I try to bring an empathy to the topic I am developing into song. I believe we humans have a lot of common experiences and I hope the songs and words touch a chord with people from every walk of life." 'REMEMBER ME AS A FRIEND' speaks of the person's need to be known and remembered while 'KNOW LOVE SONG' delves into the topics of love and loss. The title track 'OVERDUE REVIEW' provides insights and wisdom for our journeys through life. The album is not without its humour in self-revealing songs such as 'FOOL FOR YOU' and 'STRAW LOVE' a finalist in the acclaimed Glinsk Song Contest of 2009, while 'POISONED ARROW' springs from her experience of teaching guitar to disadvantaged women in a Dublin Jail. Finally the ballad 'THE DOCKER & THE SHIRT-FACTORY WORKER' uses the story of Evelyn's own Grandparents as an example of the impact of the family on our identity. "My life experiences have provided me with a rich tapestry from which my songs emerge. Enjoy!" Evelyn
