简介
Listeners will be able to value Belen Mackinlay´s artistic search in Trebol Blanco, her first solo album dedicated to folk root music. Search that takes her to Ayacucho, the town of her childhood on the Argentina countryside, to the songs her mother sang and played on the guitar, to its sounds and the landscapes, also incorporating her young urban look, her experience of singing in large theaters of Corrientes Avenue and her solid vocal training. Trébol Blanco gathers Argentine folk songs with original arrangements by Alejandro Kalinoski for double bass, piano, and percussion, instrumentation similar to jazz. The album was recorded completely acoustically, thus keeping the “live”spirit. Belen´s expressive voice, the poetry of the lyrics, and the musicality added by Alejandro Kalinoski, Guillermo Delgado and Carlos Rivero, create a rich, moving and original sound. About the artist Belén Mackinlay spent her early years in Ayacucho on the Argentine countryside where she grew up in close contact with nature. Her grandparents´ house, full of family stories, seeded her love for tradition and for those who preceded us. Belen recalls those years as a moment of absolute happiness: outdoor picnics, family games, shows staged for her parents and grandparents, first friends, and the discovery of the sounds of the field. Her family decides to move to Buenos Aires when she reaches school age. Belen’s music combines the rumor of her life in the countryside with the stridency of her passage through the city. It is her mother’s family who shows her the path of music. The stories of Mendoza and evening gatherings are her earliest memories tied to folklore. Early on she joins her mother and uncle singing zambas she learned from her grandmother. Those songs still remid her of those guitar gatherings. Belén was trained in music since early childhood, alongside her academic studies. She followed a college career while starting to work in musical theatre. On her first attempt on a professional stage she got the leading role in a musical, and it is then that she decided to devote one hundred percent of her time to her true passion, singing. After a several years standing out in different productions on Corrientes Ave. (Buenos Aires' Broadway scene), the year 2009 marked the beginning of a new twist in her career. Belen starred as a soloist in a project of her own exploring the roots of Argentine folklore, performing in the top venues in Buenos Aires for the genre, resulting in the recording of "Trebol Blanco". The repertoire of her cd includes traditional Argentine and Latin American songs. Her repertoire has a personal touch of contemporary folklore that gives new air to the music. She includes songs she sang as a child, as well as new compositions by great contemporary folklorists, leading a group of renowned musicians from today´s jazz and folk scene in Buenos Aires. The album was recorded in 2011 and produced by her own independent label: San Pastor Records. With Trébol Blanco Belen manages to integrate the urban sound to the tune of nature. With this album she returns to her roots by a synthesis of her journey as an artist. Alejandro Kalinoski plays the piano, Guillermo Delgado the double base and Carlos Rivero percussion. The arrangements are by Alejandro Kalinoski Belen is currently working and living in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Web: www.belenmackinlay.com
