简介

Bahamian dancehall artist Jah Doctrine grew up on the Island of Nassau Bahamas. His early musical influences range from artists like Bahamian legend Ronnie butler, to reggae star Buju Banton, and rap icons like Tupac Shakur and Nas. Jah Doctrine stands for ‘Music inspired by the Word of God’. His music can be described as thought provoking, entertaining, revolutionary, and spiritual. A skillful fusion of Dancehall, Reggae, and Hip Hop, accented with a Bahamian Twist. “As a youngster I hung out on the basketball court, went to concerts and listened to the latest Baker Boys cassette tapes. I wasn’t the best student and had a habit of getting into trouble at school as a way of venting my frustrations. At about 15 I found out I was adopted and began writing lyrics to help deal with the questions. Drawing inspiration from my adoption and the void of not knowing my personal history, I began to see parallels between my circumstance and the plight of the African people worldwide. I used writing as a means of expression, I didn’t know then my lyrics would take me to where I am today”. - Jah Doctrine By the late 90’s Doctrine decided to pursue a career as a rap artist. He gained experience by performing at local talent shows, and joined rap group CEO Playas. The group later disbanded and by 2001 Doctrine decided he needed to expand his horizons. His quest for knowledge took him to The United States, where he received a degree in philosophy from St. John’s University in Minnesota. His musical endeavors continued as he used this time to develop his skills, and learn the music industry. He helped to form the Hip-Hop/Reggae band D.O.C.T.R.I.N.E. which went on to win a campus ‘battle of the bands’ competition. This earned them the opportunity to open for a major label artist, and perform at events around the state. As he and the other members graduated and returned home, the group separated. Now on the brink of a solo career, and with the groups blessing, he took on the name Jah Doctrine. With new purpose and a vision, Jah Doctrine began work on his debut album titled ‘Echoes of History’. The music video for the lead single ‘My Story’ features Vicky, a Grand Bahama native formerly of D.O.C.T.R.I.N.E. This soulful song has helped to solidify Jah Doctrine’s presence, heralding the emergence of a unique talent with a fresh perspective. Jah Doctrine returned to his home in the Bahamas in December of 2007. The support has been tremendous. By February of 2008 ‘Dead Man Walking’ was featured on The Bahama Hot Ones radio show with Randy C on 100Jamz, climbing to No. 3 on the weekly countdown. ‘Dead Man Walking’ is a reggae track which features former group member, and Reggae artist Massyka of Kingston Jamaica. The song reached an international audience and was featured in Reggae Vibes Magazine (Europe) in 2008. It was followed up by Nuff Gal, also featured on The Bahama Hot Ones climbing to No. 3. ‘Nuff Gal’ was followed by hit song ‘Visions of Afrika’, the first song to be placed in rotation on 100 Jamz. The controversial song ‘Mr. Commissioner’ was released in the winter of 2009, in response to the much publicized car-jacking, involving the artists’ family. The song is featured on the War Alert Riddim a.k.a. The Warning released in Kingston Jamaica by Damrude Records. Jah Doctrine has also been a guest at 102.9 Island FM with Be and Anku Sa Ra, Power 104.5 with Kirk Johnson, and Artovation with Ta Da on Star Fm. Has been interviewed on Roots & Culture, Bahamas at Sunrise, Controversy T.V. and Bahamian Entertainment Television. He has been featured online at betvlive.com, Kemis.net, makeemlisten.net, 242party.com, maximumbass.com, and bahamasweekly.com. With the success of his music, he has been invited to open for international artists such as Sizzla Kolanji, Capleton, Jah Cure, I-Wayne, Warrior King, Ben Folds and Atmosphere. His music has received spins from DI Radio with Africa Allah in Atlanta, to KFIA radio in the twin cities Minnesota.
