Get ready for one of the hottest young bands that Memphis has produced in over a generation. The South Soul Rhythm Section boasts prodigious musicianship and an average age of just sixteen. DyWayne Thomas, Jr., 12, known as DJ has played bass since age four. He has performed on stage with the legendary Bar-Kays. Keyboardist, Tontrell Houston is destined to achieve first call status as both a composer and performer. He has already had pieces recorded by SSR and others. The group is anchored by guitarist Matt "Izzy" Isbell. He brings over 10 years of playing experience to this dynamic young band. South Soul Rhythm is a throw back to the days of real live musicianship. No sappy sequencers and drum loops here. Their full sound is rounded out by the lush keyboards and strings of Garrion Brown and Brenae Davis. Saxophonist, De'Von Britton is stylish and confident at playing both melody and improvised solos. Kenny Shepard and Reggie Shaw add just the right rhythmic touch to South Soul. Both are very capable Latin percussionists and drummers. Altogether, these pieces fit to create one of the most notable bands to emerge in the past two decades.
