While certain artists achieve widespread notoriety, other musicians direct their skills toward more selective audiences, gaining a good deal of respect along the way. Tom Breiding has been honing his singing, guitar playing and songwriting talents since the early 80's. In 1991, Tom was signed as a staff-writer at Collins Music, Corp. At that time, Tom Collins was a major player on Nashville's Music Row for artists such as Ronnie Milsap and Barbara Mandrell. This developmental deal with Collins led to collaborations with several of Nashville's most successful writers, and three self-released albums. By 2000, Breiding had accumulated a wide array of critical acclaim in Western Pennsylvania and in his native Ohio Valley, and he filled opening slots for more than a half-dozen acts at one of Pittsburgh's most highly regarded venues, Rosebud. He was a frequent guest on the legendary Jamboree USA in Wheeling, sharing the bill with the likes of Kenny Chesney, Terri Clark, Aaron Tippin, and Ty Herndon. Recently, Tom has been a guest at Jamboree in the Hills in Belmont, Ohio where he has performed each of the past four years to audiences exceeding 80,000. In 2008, Tom broke the regional barrier when critical and commercial success followed The Unbroken Circle: Songs of the West Virginia Coalfields. Self-produced and released on his independent AmeriSon Records label, the album spent 16 weeks in the top 100 of the Americana charts, climbing as high as #55 and generating more than 1400 reported radio spins from coast to coast. The album received more than 400 spins in California alone and received favorable reviews by the NY Times, Co., Robert Christgau, Dirty Linen Magazine, Sing Out Magazine, and Bluegrass Unlimited. The album's release was also celebrated with a cover feature in Pittsburgh's newspaper, the Tribune Review. Today, Tom is focused on his solo career, but he still performs many shows with his band American Son, and with Bill Toms, one of Pittsburgh's favorite artists.
