Ryan is a Giant, Ryan is a Mouse, Ryan is a Liar, Ryan likes your Blouse. Ryan is a Drunk, Ryan's got the Funk, Ryan's had Enough, Ryan is in Love. After hurling through painful high school straight to excruciatingly painful college, the light at the end of the tunnel has always come as a song. Playing with funk bands, jazz ensembles, concert bands, folk acts to leading my his own rock bands, Ryan Maguire listens to the voices in his head (he suspects they come by way of fairies) and turns them into stories an songs. In his many musical endeavors he has opened for acts such as Steppenwolf, Down With Webster, Kardinal Ofishall, Trevor Guthrie among many others. He has toured his music across Canada raising money for Cystic Fibrosis research, plays in popular Toronto band ColinResponse, and writes with Ethan Smith from his favourite band, Union Duke. Between this and writing, he still finds time to teach guitar in a hole-in-the-wall music school in Newmarket, and sincerely loves showing people how natural it is that music should flow out of them. It's gosh-darn fun, is what it is. Rooted in the north American tradition of booty shaking, Ryan goes forth without limitations to explore the extent that can be expressed with a couple notes and a story. Hints of rock, jazz, folk and pop act as veils for his monstrous ideas lingering just below the surface. What excited him most is to create a world (or, you know, a Canada) that values the creative side in us all. That is to say, the femine, the unconscious, the fairies, the unknown, the god, the human side. Ryan believes there is be nothing more important than that, and it is easily forgotten in a future thinking, frightened world. What better way to express that than to have fun. All this to say...
