At the age of 11, koralee’s sister Kara died in a tragic accident after their lunchtime argument over spilled ice cream. Years later koralee, who was nine at the time of her sister’s death, wrote the song ‘Sister’ to describe the pain and upheaval she faced after losing her best friend. The sudden loss of a loved one does not just bring sadness, but throws those left behind headfirst into confusion, anger, guilt and denial – feelings that can be difficult to express, hard to admit and impossible to ignore. Although an early version of ‘Sister’ had been released in 2010 on koralee’s self-titled EP, she felt it was not complete. ‘Sister’ was more than just a song, it was an experience - shared by many who had lost a loved one and did not know where to turn. When koralee sang the song live, she saw tears on the faces of audience members in the darkness. Emails, phone calls and letters from fans had touched her with their stories of how the song had brought them to a new place in their healing. koralee decided it was time to take her very personal story into the light with a brand new version of the song as well as a video. koralee spearheaded a working relationship with Atlanta-based Producer, Music Director and Multi-Instrumentalist Morris (‘Mo’) Pleasure. On hearing ‘Sister’ for the first time, he said: “It hit a chord inside me and I knew I wanted to be involved in the challenge of actually creating emotion with instruments to match the passion of that voice and to create a production that would organically support the story being told.” Over the course of an eventful thirty years, Mo’s career has stood as a formidable rebuttal against labels, boxes and boundaries placed upon artists of his caliber. Possessing a rare fluency in the language of music, Mo's versatility and mastery across genres has garnered him coveted gigs as a sideman to some of the most iconic artists in pop music history – from being plucked out of college to play for Ray Charles to Michael Jackson’s “This Is It’ band to a long association with David Foster. No less ambidextrous when it comes to instruments - bass, keys, trumpet and guitar chief among them - his singular "feel" has earned him accolades from the likes of George Duke, Philip Bailey, Alan Gorrie and many more. As a producer, his virtuosity and artistry allow him to deliver stellar results for a portfolio of artists that includes contemporary jazz legend and collaborator Najee as well as rising independent artists like koralee, of whom he said: “(My) immediate reaction was that I was hearing solo voice of a quality I hadn't heard before.” Recorded in Atlanta, GA in October of 2012, 'Sister' will be released along with a video produced by koralee and LA-based Year Eight productions in April, 2013. The video, shot in Hollywood and inspired by the Sinead O’Connor classic ‘Nothing Compares 2U’, features a single shot of koralee as she sings directly to the audience.
