Dr. Steve Raybine is a music teacher; vibraphonist; percussionist; pianist; composer/arranger and clinician. He received degrees from the prestigious Eastman School of Music, University of Wisconsin-Madison, and the University of Iowa. Raybine has taught Jazz Studies and Percussion at universities for over ten years and private studio teaching for fifteen years, also incorporating contemporary and classical piano, songwriting and vocal stylings into his offerings. Many of his students, such as Jack and Jack and Clark and Company have attained local, regional and national performing prominence. His lectures and performances have been featured on Nebraska Public Radio and Nebraska Educational Television. He has presented research papers at the International Association of Jazz Educators (IAJE) conference, which were published in conference proceedings. Raybine has had numerous articles published in Percussive Notes and Sticks and Mallets publications. In 1997, he received the Jazz Educator of the year Award for the State of Nebraska from the National Band Association. He is Past-President of the Nebraska Chapter of the Percussive Arts Society and is a Broadcast Music Incorporated (BMI) composer. Raybine is an artist and clinician with Ludwig/Musser and endorses Mike Balter Mallets. He co-created forty music motivational posters through his website music4lifeLLC.com, which are sold on J.W. Pepper, music retailer. Raybine has performed nationally at colleges and universities as a jazz artist and as a vibraphone soloist, recitalist and clinician. He has appeared at Northern Illinois University; Marshall University; University of Wisconsin-Madison; Northeast Missouri State University; Florida State University; University of South Dakota; Grand Opera House in Oshkosh, Wisconsin; University of Wisconsin-Green Bay; Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota-Winona campus and Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska. He gave a clinic at the 2000 Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) in Dallas, Texas featuring his MIDI vibraphone innovations. Steve Raybine and his band perform his original contemporary jazz music, which incorporates urban funk, R&B, rock and Latin music elements. His melodically-appealing music has been featured on over 150 internet and terrestrial radio stations. His first CD release was entitled Steve Raybine: Balance Act. His second CD, Bad Kat Karma, was released on BAD KAT Records, LLC in 2005. His third CD, In the Driver’s Seat, was released in 2009 on BAD KAT Records. Raybine has played festivals and venues in Nebraska, Iowa, Colorado and South Dakota, including The Colorado Genuine Jazz Festival (three times), Sioux Falls Jazz and Blues Festival, Jazz on the Green and The Omaha Riverfront Jazz and Blues Festival. Raybine’s freelance performance credits include Dizzy Gillespie, Dave Brubeck, Michael Feinstein, Karrin Allyson, Rick Braun, Ndugu Chancler, Jack Jones, Roger Williams, Ed Shaughnessy, The Omaha Big Band, as well as local and regional orchestras.
