简介

In the mid-1990s, while studying in Lisbon, a childhood friend, Tito Paris blessed her first public performance. Shortly thereafter she began to perform frequently on almost all the Cape Verde Islands, particularly in public festivals, pubs and entertainment rooms. She quickly enamored audiences with her strong voice, which a Brazilian journalist compared to popular Brazilian singer, Alcione. Since, Diva has traveled extensively performing for audiences all over the world. She had the opportunity to sing in Fortaleza, Sao Paulo, and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil through an invitation from the Secretary of State of Culture during a week dedicated to Africa. Diva represented the city of Sao Vincente during the "Week of Mindelo", an event that took place in the cities of Porto and Lisbon. She also performed on Italian stages in Rome, Montemurlo, Leschia and Montescusdaio during the "Festival Sete Sois, Sete Luas" (Festival of Seven Suns & Seven Moons). In North America, she has performed in Boston, Providence, New Bedford, Los Angeles and Orlando. Diva won distinction in both 2005 and 2007 on the Gala Night “Nos Music” (Our Music) in Mindelo, when she was awarded best female voice, award offered by Cesária Évora. She snatched the votes of both the judges and stated that this was "a very strong stimulus for recording". Diva manages to mix music from different cultures, but her repertoire is dominated by the Capeverdean music of her youth in Mindelo. Her music highlight with the mornas and coladeira of older composers, yet she also values many modern artists which are a part of her repetoire. In December, 2010 Diva produced and released her first album entitled “Palco D’Vida” (Stage of Life), under another new genius music arranger, Hernani Almeida. The album consists of 12 tracks bringing together the flavors of the traditional music of the islands with some seasoned rhythms of other cultures. The combination is creates a sound that reflects Diva’s personal sentiment. The album features great national composers including Jotamonte, Paulino Vieira, Constantino Cardoso, Boy Gê Mendes, Teofilo Chantre, Vlu, Glanzer Ramos, Calu Monteiro, Djim Job and Djoy Amado, and a track composed by the singer. Confident of her “caboverdianidade”, she asserts that when she sings she paints with strokes of her soul and the music becomes an art that she offers to the world. The album is also a tribute to the father, her inspiration, who since the beginning taught her the value of her cultural heritage. “The album was born from the stages that I traveled to and seduced, also with blessings from the words and solidarity of those who accompanied me along the way, so it comes to you with good vibes”.
