The debut EP from Maple Hill, "In Spite of the Past" is an exploration of the results of circumstances both within and beyond our control. The songs tell stories ranging from escapism (the introductory multi-section rocker "Run") to youthful questioning ("Foggy," an infectious, synth-washed track) to mystery (the epic and building "Legerdemain") and finally prodigal absolution (the classically-inspired closer "Return"). The styles of this EP are just as diverse as the conceptual content, drawing from classic and progressive rock, folk and country, modern electronica, and even classical elements, yet with a singular creative vision that leads each song into the next with ease.

Written and recorded by multi-instrumentalist Jesse Miller, along with help from local musicians in California's Central Valley, "In Spite of the Past" was produced over a period of 5 months in mid-2015.
