简介
“One of the most exciting voices to come out of the Paris Soul Afro-Beat Jazz scene. Her mesmerizing voice can be aligned to a mixture of Erika Badu and Lauryn Hill.» In 2008 Parisian Soul-Jazz Singer Leslie Phillips was a top 3 finalist in the national singing competition called The Sankofa Soul Contest. She received the Prize of the Public for her performance. In 2009, she joined the great soul/gospel choir “We Are One”. This gave her the opportunity to perform on the most prestigious stage in France (L’Olympia). By the end of the year she was co-writing with many composers and producers while performing many gigs all around Paris. She performed in all of the possible music venues as well as festivals, on TV and Radio shows such as Generations, IDFM, RFI, Tropiques. This lead her to sing in many different genres including Soul, Hip Hop, Musicals, Reagge/Ragga, R’n'B, Jazz, World, Zouk, Maloya, Electro, and Gospel. One of her originals “Il est temps” was featured on the first Neo Soul compilation produced by the label Soulissime with very talented artists, Aldrick, Habib Kane, Jaleenah Birdland, Jango Jack, Kohno and more. Leslie decided to move to London in the spring of 2010 with the intent to study music but studying was not all the experienced singer did. Soon after her arrival, famous radio shows host Gary King invited Leslie to be featured on his program on Jazz FM. After she sang Gary raved of her “brilliant” performance. Following a concert hosted by Jazz FM at the Kensington Roof Garden she was asked to be the resident performer for the entire summers of 2011 and 2012. In 2013 she joined the Hip-Hop Soul combo “Retrospective for Love” as the female vocalist of the band and she’s one of the lead singers of the jazz collective “The Stowaways”. Now, Leslie is a graduate from the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance (ICMP) in Vocal Performance and Songwriting. Her smooth yet powerful voice on this recording is brilliant and her eclectic compositions are remarkable. Artists she worked with: Retrospective for Love, Suffice, Phil Capone & the Stowaways, Bobby Good Evans, Nicolas Coyez, Virgil Abraham’s Fellaship, the Lossen Jazz collectif, La Madrugada Orquesta, John Grondin, Thomas Toussaint, HF, Zio John and Tumsoul Prod.
