Formed in Bushwick, NY in 2009, Gentle is Marisa Handren and Akiko Sampson at the core of a rotating cast that has been joined at times by Shah Motia of Knyfe Hyts and Ex Models and Jens Jurgenson of Boss Hog and Lo-Hi.

This has been said about Gentle's live performance: "The set started out with low key, melodic gentle-driving rhythm with elements of prog and built up in intensity and distortion towards the end. What stuck out for me was the gorgeous, deep and liquid bass lines, something akin to ‘The Breeders’ or thereabouts – I call it ‘black honey bass’ and it is one of my favorite sounds.
